Sew Alongs in May!

Spring is in the air and sewing opportunities have sprung up everywhere! I love opening up a window in my sewing room, taking off my shoes and sewing with the spring or summers light on my fabric. Creating a relaxing retreat is ideal for sewing. Here are a few blogs that are inviting us to sew with them in the month of May. Jump in and join the fun! Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!: SONP 2011 Flickr: The Summer of No Pants 2011 1. I can identify with Marigold, my favorite outfit would be a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. Mainly because I can wear any of my Sew Spoiled bags with it. ( I know that sounds terrible, but it is true.) I would love to turn a new leaf and wear more skirts and dresses! Iron away Stains

Unpacking boxes of spring kid clothes, I found a few dresses and t-shirts that still had a lot of wear but had stains down the front. I had an idea! If I cut out a few different heat transfer designs on the Silhouette and cover the stains up my girls could still wear these clothes this spring! The heat transfer vinyl is perfect for ironing on t-shirts and/or cotton fabrics. First, make sure the stain cannot be removed. These are chocolate ice cream stains. Very hard to get out! Second, find a large enough design to cover the stain and send it to your Silhouette to cut it out! Tip: When you feed the vinyl into the machine make sure the shiny side is down. My oldest loves penguins so I found a silhouette of a penguin. Cover the vinyl with a scrap piece of fabric to protect the transfer tape. Tip: Make sure your iron is set no high than 300 degrees. Finally, press until your transfer tape easily peels way from ALL of the vinyl. Yeah! I am off to cover more stains! Here are a few helpful

Lisette Market Skirt Pattern from Simplicity 2211

This is the Lisette Skirt pattern, Simplicity 2211 . This Simplicity pattern is written by Liesl Gibson of Oliver +S ! I love her designs for children and I enjoy reading through her patterns because they are filled with helpful tips. These Simplicity adult patterns are no different. There are tips throughout, illustrations are clear and with her new line of Lisette fabrics to choose from you can’t go wrong. This fabric is chambray, it is a basic fabric that looks great with anything! The only trouble I had, was trying to figure out which size to cut out. In the stores I go to the petite section and usually buy a size 8. Size charts on patterns can be different from sizes in the department stores, so I measured my waist 28 ”and hips 38” , size 14. I cut out the size 14 and followed through until I had to sew the front to the back and realized it was to large! I cut off 1.5” of the sides and continued. I guess this is a lesson learned you should always make a muslin first. I took th

Silhouette Decal your iPhone Case

I have been looking for the perfect iPhone case but I settled for this green Skullcandy case. It is a typical boy case green at the top and black along the bottom with a skull on the back, not very pretty. So I have decided to decal my case using the Silhouette . First I had to cover the skull. So I measured the back of the iPhone case and drew a round edged rectangle. After the Silhouette cut out the rectangle, I applied it over the skull on the back of this case. Then for the sewing machine design on the back. This is my favorite feature of the Silhouette. You can rearrange the designs using the Silhouette software. After cutting the design out with my Silhouette, I placed it over the black rectangle and applied the iPhone case. You have to rub the contact paper smooth so you do not have bubbles under the vinyl. Ta-Da!! I thought you might like to give it a try. So  here  is the PDF of the sewing machine. Sew Spoiled on Spring Break!

This is what my Mac looked like yesterday! My hard drive crashed and we had to wipe out the data and start over. Luckily I use Time Machine and all of my data was backed up. Since my computer was not working, I started on a few sewing projects. Here are a few pictures.... This is a shoulder bag, I like the bottom curve or wave. I am working on an entire collection with this wave theme! Look at what I found at Jo Ann’s ! I love all of these adult patterns by “Lisette” from Liesl Gibson of Oliver+S . I hope to have some extra time to make myself a few pieces from the “Lisette” collection. I love the skirt and dresses! Working on a little shirring project using an extra large mens t-shirt. This is a nightgown tutorial that is fun, fast and easy to make. I am working on the diagrams for the templates. You do need to know how to shirr and serge but there are ways around that too. Stay tuned for more Sew Spoiled tutorials, patterns, giveaways and more! Happy Stitching!
